Top Five: Design Blogs

Since 2000’s ‘High Fidelity’, the idea of arranging things into a concise and thoughtful Top Five list has appealed to me. I’ve compiled lists ranging from Top 5 Worst Things To Have Fall On Your Head to Top Five Best Things That Don’t Actually Exist, and now it’s time to share one that is a bit more prevalent in everyday life.

5. MAKE
All Top Five lists need some variety. This blog is all about homemade magic, tweaking technology, and the DIY aesthetic that keeps our industry exciting.

4. NOD - Notes On Design
Interviews, new work, and design resources make NOD a worthwhile morning-coffee destination as well as a place to find late-night deadline inspiration.

3. Hoefler & Frere-Jones
One of my favorite things about being a designer is indulging in the total geekdom of typography. It’s an obsession, and these guys know everything about it. Everything.

2. Design Observer
This might be an obvious choice, but there’s no better place to find eloquent essays about art, culture, and design from an all-star roster of critics.

1. Typography Served
The maitre d’ lifts the silver lid off a steaming hot plate of fresh design every time I visit this bookmark-begging blog. Everything you’ll see here is youthful, exciting, and new. Be sure to check out their other sections: Motion Graphics, Photography, Industrial Design, and Fashion.
